Congressman Dan Kildee Tours Mac Arthur Corporation
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) toured Mac Arthur Corporation and met with CEO, Christie Wong and President, Tom Barrett to discuss ways Congress and communities can act to strengthen the Manufacturing sector nationally, in Michigan, and in the 5th district. A healthy and growing Manufacturing sector is the backbone for long term economic growth and national security. They discussed challenges and opportunities to coordinate and mobilize America’s manufacturing sector, develop and commercialize advanced manufacturing technologies, and develop a 21st century workforce. They also discussed how the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation can play a vital role; including the new Lightweight and Modern Metals Manufacturing Innovation Institute (LM3I) recently launched in Michigan.
Congressman Kildee recently introduced new legislation, the 21st Century Manufacturing Skills and Jobs Act, which would expand community college partnerships with local business to train prospective employees for high-skilled, high-paying manufacturing jobs. The bill is part of the ‘Make it in America’ jobs plan, a package of bills creating a national manufacturing strategy and encouraging businesses to locate in Michigan and the United States. Ms. Wong provides policy recommendations on Manufacturing Sector innovation and competitiveness through the White House Advanced Manufacturing Partnership and the Department of Commerce Manufacturing Council.
