On June 9-10, 2014 Mac Arthur Corporation CEO, Christie Wong, presented early findings and recommendations on Scale Up Policy at the AMP 2.0 Regional Meeting co-hosted by University of Michigan and Northrop Grumman Corporation in conjunction with The Big M Convergence in Detroit, Michigan. The Scale Up Policy Scope is to identify and overcome barriers inhibiting Small to Medium sized Manufacturers in the U.S. to adopting and commercializing new technologies.
The Big M event brought together manufacturers and policymakers dedicated to developing and implementing real-world solutions to the many challenges facing the U.S. manufacturing industry. Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker, delivered the keynote address at the Big M speaking to the industry’s need for an image overhaul and urging manufacturers to help create more trade-based education. “We need your help to update the image of manufacturing. Today, too many parents, teachers and guidance counselors still do not understand. Too many young people still do not understand that a career in manufacturing can be a challenging, rewarding way to earn a living.”
“We were energized by Secretary Pritzker’s keynote discussing the addition of a new IMI (Institute for Manufacturing Innovation) focused on lightweight metals, in Canton, MI and the Investing in Manufacturing Community Partnership (IMCP) with Michigan’s designation as one of the first communities to be named to this initiative.” – Christie Wong
